Car Catches Car


The driver of an automobile, traveling at a constant velocity v1 = 35 m/s, applies his brakes when he is a distance D = 30 m from a slower moving car that is traveling at a constant v2 = 10 m/s. Assume the car brakes at a constant deceleration |a1| = 2.2 m/s2.


At what speed is the braking car moving (with respect to the ground) when it collides with the slowly moving car?
