Lagrangian Matter Tracers: The Jet Emerges

Lagrangian Matter Tracers: The Jet Emerges

Throughout the evolution of the NSNS binary, we seed "particles" in the neutron stars to serve as tracers of Lagrangian fluid elements. Then we track where these particles move as we follow the evolution of the matter and magnetic field. We seed and track the particles that originate in the disk after magnetic field lines collimate above and below the black hole poles. As the evolution proceeds, some particles escape from the disk into the funnels above the black hole poles. The figures below are snapshots of the particles at different times. The escaping particles are marked in red, while the others are marked in green.
