Comparison of Field Strengths

The top left image shows two initial poloidal fields. The one on the left is twice the strength, as indicated by the ratio of the Alfvén speed to the rotational speed and by the density of field lines. A toroidal magnetic field will build up, removing the differential rotation, no matter how weak the initial poloidal field is. The maximum magnitude of the toroidal magnetic field is the same for any initial poloidal field; however it takes more time to reach maximum twisting for the weaker initial field, as evident by the clocks in the top right image.
