Effects of Black-Hole Spin

We study the inspiral and merger for two different BHBH mass ratios: equal mass q = 1 and unequal mass q = 3. The major distinction between the two cases is the recoil or kick velocity of the final BH. For the equal mass merger there is identically zero kick velocity of the final BH due to symmetries, while in the unequal mass case, the kick velocity is 174 km/s.
