ICMT summer school 2016: Introduction to topological phases of matter

Announcement

We would ike to cordially invite you to participate in the 2016 summer school workshop “Introduction to topological phases of matter,” funded by the National Science Foundation. The summer 2016 lectures will take place in Illinois, at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign campus, between August 8 and August 12, 2016.

Application

Please apply to become a conference participant at https://my.physics.illinois.edu/submit/go.asp?id=991. There are no registration fees.

Goals

To create a forum where the participants can learn from each other about various modern analytical methods for condensed matter physicists. The lectures will focus on methods, specifically, each lecture will demonstrate a particular theoretical machinery via explicitly worked out applications. The applications will be inspired from the current trends in condensed matter research.

Invited Lecturers

Format

There will be a number of core lectures, to be delivered by faculties and postdoctoral scholars actively working in those particular fields. There will also be shorter presentations, which we call exercises in theoretical condensed matter, to be delivered by graduate students.

Program

Call for abstracts

We are open to receiving titles and abstracts from graduate students who want to present a 30 minute blackboard communication about their research.

Miscellaneous

We will try to tape the lectures and make them available to a broader community. There will be a round table discussion about the possible future topics and about ways to improve the blackboard lectures.

Sponsors
